MN-CBAC Data Reveal

Thank you to everyone who turned out for the Minnesota Coalition of Bar Associations of Color: 2022 Data Reveal

Earlier this month, the Minnesota Coalition of Bar Associations of Color shared their annual Diversity and Inclusion Data. MN-CBAC analyzed data from law firms and corporate legal departments in the Twin Cities and shared an in-depth analysis of where the Twin Cities legal community stands.

Key highlights include:

  • Law firms in the Twin Cities area have a median 10% representation of minority racial and ethnic groups, falling significantly behind the Bureau of Labor Statistics national median of 17% minority racial and ethnic group representation at law firms.
  • Corporations in the Twin Cities are slightly ahead of the national BLS median, with 18.5% minority racial and ethnic representation.
  • MN-CBAC included public interest attorneys for the first time this year – the median for minority racial and ethnic representation at public organizations in the Twin Cities is slightly behind the national BLS average at 16.5%.
  • At corporations in the Twin Cities, when broken out among racial categories, Asian attorneys are the only category where Twin Cities corporations surpass the national average as measured by the BLS (4.7% national average; 6.3% in the Twin Cities).

MN-CBAC was formed in 2020 by members of the Minnesota Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association, Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers and the Minnesota American Indian Bar Association.
